Founded October 3, 1887, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a public, historically Black university located in Tallahassee, Florida. What distinguishes FAMU from other universities is its legacy of providing access to a high-quality, affordable education with programs and services that guide students toward successfully achieving their dreams. The Florida Legislature of 1957 authorized North Florida Junior College and five other community colleges in the state. The counties of Hamilton, Madison, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Taylor were proposed as an area with need for a community college. In the establishment of the college area, Jefferson County replaced Suwannee County. Suwannee County became a participating county in 1974.

Created by the Florida Legislature in 1959, Broward College has the second-largest enrollment within the Florida College System (FCS). Broward College serves 56,000 students with the support of 4,000 full-time and part-time faculty and staff. Broward College fulfills its mission each day, “Transforming students’ lives and enriching our diverse community through academic excellence, innovation, and meaningful career opportunities,” by offering first-time college students, adult learners, and career professionals academic programs across eight career-related pathways. Programs include specialized certificates, and two and four-year degrees. The College also offers non-degree training, workforce readiness, and an extensive list of continuing education curricula.
